Moreton Hall occupies a distinctive position amongst leading East Anglian Preparatory Schools. Catholic, welcoming other denominations, co-educational across the 3-13 age range, and with a pastoral ethos very much that of the extended family, the School places particular emphasis upon close attention to the individual needs and abilities of its pupils whilst at the same time maintaining high standards throughout its curricular, extra-curricular and sporting programmes. There are Preparatory, Pre-Preparatory and specialist Nursery Departments.
The full range of traditional preparatory and National Curriculum subjects is taught, as well as Latin, to Common Entrance and Public School scholarship level. The School has decades of experience and success in preparing pupils for the leading public schools across the country. Moreton Hall pupils have progressed to 40 different public schools in recent years, many pupils having won Public School Scholarships.
Moreton Hall offers a number of both academic scholarships, and subject to voice trials, a number of St Edmundsbury Cathedral chorister scholarships, for both boarding and day pupils.
The School's excellent facilities include music rooms, language laboratory, computer room, art room, design and technology room, science laboratory, library, and senior school block; there is also a purpose-built Sports Hall, and a covered swimming pool, which enables it to be used as an on-site facility for most of the year. The adjacent Squash Club has an indoor swimming pool which is also used by our pupils.
The school has a fine sporting record; on the extensive 30-acre site are played the full range of preparatory school games - rugby, hockey, soccer, netball, etc, during the winter, and athletics, cricket and swimming in the summer, with tennis, squash and badminton all the year round either on the outdoor courts or the indoor Sports Hall courts.
The School has a very strong tradition in drama. recent professionally directed full scale productions have included Toad of Toad Hall, See How They Run, As You Like It and Henry the Tudor Dude. This year's production will be Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
Extra curricular clubs and activities are a strong feature of the Prep School life, besides drama, ranging from lunchtime orchestra, string groups, jazz group and choirs etc, through to after-school clubs such as enamelling, computer, art, cooking, carpentry, railway, cameras, riding, sailing, chess, swimming, and a wide variety of sports practices and matches. Two-thirds of Moreton Hall pupils learn at least one musical instrument.
The School accepts both day pupils and boarders, and the boarders live alongside the Headmaster and his wife, a Matron and resident boarding staff in the main building in the centre of the School grounds.
The main School building is a very fine example of Robert Adam's classical architecture and houses notable period rooms. There is also a chapel, which is a splendid example of this architect's work, where all pupils take part in early morning assemblies and weekly services.
The Headmaster is pleased to welcome visitors who would like to see the School in operation.
